[With the Jedi being dissolved into mostly myth and legend, there was still rumors around. Remaining Jedi, light and dark side both, flung to far reaches of the galaxy. People who had gone off and not returned, who people told stories of and yet knew no end to them. Time had likely killed most of them or danger that found them even in hiding.
Yet, there was still one Jedi that many believes was still alive and young, even. Victor Nikiforov didn't have that many stories about him, the republic's Jedi Council had wanted to sweep him from the books to be forgotten. A deserter, unwilling to compromise for the good of the Force. A Grey, unable to dedicate himself to the light, unable to follow their tenants and close his heart to others. Prideful, mischievous, they believed he would fall to the darkside the moment he was away from their influence. They had not been right about that.
What stories did remain told of his peculiar use of the force. Diplomatic Aura, they dubbed it, a strange version of force persuasion. When he focused on it's use, he could emit a field of influence that didn't dominate the minds of those around him, but rather made them feel at ease. It was amazing how this simple effect could improve diplomatic relations, turning what may have been tense negotiations into casual affairs. Despite his distaste for combat, he was an invaluable asset for a time.
It wasn't known why he turned from the light and abandoned the republic several generations ago. What was known was a small planet near the outer rim, covered in ice, a vacation spot for the wealthy. A Jedi lived there, not light and not dark, but hardly in hiding. It didn't make sense for him to be describes as young, given the time that had passed, but it was better for the Rebels to investigate such a story than risk another Jedi on the side of the Order.]
